LECTURNITY 4.0.p8: Release Notes

Modifications from Release 4.0.p7 to Release 4.0.p8

Bug fixes

The following bugs of LECTURNITY 4.0.p7 are fixed in LECTURNITY 4.0.p8:

  • Replay problem of Video Documents within Safari on iPhone 3.x: If a recording is published to a Web server as Video Document (MP4) and the URL is accessed on devices with iPhone OS 3.0 or higher (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) through the Safari Web browser, then the error message “Replay failed” is displayed and the document cannot be replayed. This problem does not appear on devices with iPhone OS 2.x or lower and also not on devices with iPhone OS 3.x, if accessed outside Safari.

  • Position of Presentation Bar reset: If the position of the Presentation Bar in the Full Screen Mode is customized and the LECTURNITY Studio is restarted, then the Presentation Bar is erroneously displayed at its default position on the right desktop border.

  • Server Access Settings during publishing preparation ignored: If a recording is published using the “Publish Advanced …” setting in the context menu and the storage destination “Server” is selected in the Publisher then a click on the “OK” button in the Server Access Settings dialog is erroneously without any effect. As a consequence the server access settings can not be set and therefore the document not be uploaded.

LECTURNITY 4.0.p7: Release Notes

Modifications from Release 4.0.p6 to Release 4.0.p7:

Features

The following new functionalities have been introduced in LECTURNITY 4.0.p7:

  • Direct information about, and access to, storage directory of recordings: In LECTURNITY 4.0.p7 tooltips on the entries in the Recordings and Source Documents View provide the path and filename of Recordings as well as of Source Documents. The new function “Explore” in the recording’s context menu of the Recordings View opens its storage directory in the Windows Explorer.

Improvements

The following features, properties and modules have been improved in LECTURNITY 4.0.p7:

  • Activation by license key without re-installation: Evaluation versions of LECTURNITY can be activated (turned into a full version) by simply entering a valid license key. Therefore, re-installation of the software after purchase is no longer necessary. The license key can be entered in the info dialog (splash screen) of LECTURNITY Studio.

Bug fixes

The following bugs of LECTURNITY 4.0.p6 are fixed in LECTURNITY 4.0.p7:

  • Replay problems with Flash Documents including double quotes in chapter titles: If a recording contains double quotes in chapter titles, the corresponding Flash Document cannot be replayed correctly. The document can be opened in the Web browser, but the document structure and navigation bar are invisible.

  • Missing mathematical symbols in Flash Documents in certain situations: If a PowerPoint slide includes mathematical symbols, they are correctly imported and displayed in LECTURNITY. But after a recording of this slide is made, the symbols are sometimes not displayed in the corresponding Flash Document.

  • “Jump to the Next Page” button erroneously disabled on last page: In the view mode “Presentation” (full screen mode), the user can display the next animation of a slide imported from PowerPoint by pressing the button “Jump to the Next Page” in the Presentation Bar. However, if the last page of the Source Document is reached, the button is erroneously disabled, so that animations on the last page cannot be displayed using this button.

  • Wrong search results in Flash Documents in certain situations: If a recording contains clips, the last hit in a search result performed on the corresponding Flash Document is erroneously listed more than once. In addition, the titles of the hits in the search result are wrong in this case.

  • Wrong positioning of Favourites Bar on Publish button in certain cases: If the Publish button in the Recordings View of LECTURNITY Studio is positioned on the very bottom of the screen, the Favourites Bar displayed as mouse over effect is erroneously positioned directly above the button and therefore hiding parts of the button in some cases.

  • Blank thumbnail entries after interrupting the structuring process: If the structuring process after the end of a Screen Recording is interrupted (using “Continue Later”), then the thumbnail entries of the document structure in the Edit Mode are erroneously blank, even after completion of the structuring process later on.

  • Wrong structure entries and mouse movements after pause in Screen Recordings: If a Screen Recording is paused during the recording, then the points of time corresponding to the entries in the resulting document structure are sometimes wrong. In addition, the mouse movements displayed in the corresponding Simulation/Demonstration Document during replay are wrong.

LECTURNITY 4.0.p6: Release Notes

Modifications from Release 4.0.p5 to Release 4.0.p6

Features

The following new functionalities have been introduced in LECTURNITY 4.0.p6:

  • Software Simulation Mode: LECTURNITY 4.0.p6 makes creating software demonstrations and simulations easy and convenient. These demonstrations or simulations can include elements such as interaction and stop and target marks, as well as the new Callout and Textfield Objects. The user creates a Screen Recording in the same way in earlier LECTURNITY versions. Afterwards an extended document structure is displayed which includes new entries for mouse clicks performed during the recording in addition to the usual entries. There is a setting that makes it possible to hide all new click-based entries at once and if necessary also permanently, i.e., for every later recording. This is useful for users who do not need these click-based entries, for example, if they recorded a presentation and not software. In the Edit Mode the user can insert new Callout or Textfield Objects into Screen Recordings. These new objects are freely customizable in various parameters, especially regarding their position, size, and display time span. Interaction Areas, Buttons, and Questions can be inserted into this Screen Recording as already known from “Standard” recordings. The flexibility of the Interaction Areas allows the simulation of interactive behaviour in the recorded application or software in various ways. A good starting point for a Software Simulation Document is the creation of a “Demo Document”, which automatically adds predefined Callouts with “Next” buttons at the positions and recordings times of the mouse clicks that were captured during recording. In combination with the also inserted stop marks, this Demo Document can be used as a first, very easily created demonstration of a software workflow. Such demonstrated workflows can be tested in practise, if the user transfers a Demo Document into a Simulation Document. The data volume of Software Simulation Documents is much smaller compared to usual Screen Recordings. As with all interactive documents created with LECTURNITY, these Software Simulations can be transferred into different Target Formats. This is also possible with the Video Format, if the document contains graphical objects only (callouts, etc.) and does not contain interaction or stop marks.

Improvements

The following features, properties and modules have been improved in LECTURNITY 4.0.p6:

  • Generic Publishing Profiles: In LECTURNITY 4.0.p5, user-created Publishing Profiles can only be used for a specific document type, i.e. a certain combination of media elements. The Profile cannot be used for Recordings not belonging to the underlying document type. For example, if the user takes a Recording without video or clips as the basis for the creation of a Flash-based Profile, this Profile cannot be used for a Flash Document with video or clips, i.e., the Profile cannot be applied to Recordings including video or clips. LECTURNITY 4.0.p6 supports generic Profiles in the sense that any Profile can be used for Recordings of arbitrary document type.

  • Web Formats in Original Resolution: In LECTURNITY 4.0.p6 all Web-based Target Formats (i.e., Flash Document, Windows Media Document, RealMedia Document) are displayed by default in their original resolution and thereby in the best possible quality. This scaling factor can be changed to “Fit to window” by the user in the Web Player. Additionally, the author of the document can activate the setting “Open in new window” during publishing, so that the document not only opens in the original resolution, but also with a window size that exactly fits the document, if possible with regard to the screen resolution. With this setting activated no scrollbars appear in the Web Player and the document content is therefore, despite its display in original resolution, completely visible to the user.

Bug fixes

The following bugs of LECTURNITY 4.0.p5 are fixed in LECTURNITY 4.0.p6:

  • Unexpected replay stop in Flash Documents after jump back to first page: If a Recording contains an accompanying video or a video clip, then a jump to the first page in the corresponding Flash Document results in an unexpected replay stop. The jump itself is performed correctly. This effect also appears with Flash Documents of Screen Recordings in general.

  • Missing font warning for unavailable fonts in Preview: If a Recording is opened in the Studio and one of the fonts used in the Recording is not installed on the system, the corresponding text is not displayed during Preview. This is correct, but erroneously a warning message about the missing font is not displayed either.

  • Wrong end position of PowerPoint connector objects after import in certain situation: If a PowerPoint slide contains connector objects (e.g., arrows) that connect other objects, then the connectors erroneously point to other dock points of the connected objects after import into LECTURNITY in certain situations.

  • No PowerPoint import with error message “The following file is used and cannot be overwritten”: If a PowerPoint document is imported and PowerPoint 2007 is the standard PowerPoint application on this system, then, in certain situations the import erroneously results in the error message “The following file is used and cannot be overwritten”. In this case the import is aborted and no document is imported.

  • Too few search results in Flash Documents in some cases: Searching for a keyword in a Flash Document results in too few search hits in some cases.
Missing arrows heads after import from PowerPoint under specific conditions: If a PowerPoint 2007 document contains horizontal or vertical arrows, then these arrows are displayed without heads after import in LECTURNITY.

LECTURNITY 4.0.p5: Release Notes

Modifications from Release 4.0.p4 to Release 4.0.p5

Features

The following new functionalities have been introduced in LECTURNITY 4.0.p5:

  • Display of LECTURNITY logo and letters in Web Player customizable: In LECTURNITY 4.0.p5 the display of the LECTURNITY logo and the LECTURNITY letters on the Web Player and in the window’s title bar is customizable. This covers the target formats Flash, Windows Media, and Real Media Documents. By default the logo and letters display is activated. It can be deactivated in the respective design templates of the target formats in the Publisher.

Bug fixes

The following bugs of LECTURNITY 4.0.p4 are fixed in LECTURNITY 4.0.p5:

  • Error “…: Creating file …” during Flash Document creation in certain cases: If a recording contains lots of high-resolution images, then the creation of the corresponding Flash Document results in the display of the error message “An error occured during the following task: Creating file. Error: Unknown Error”. As a consequence, the creation of the Flash Document is aborted.

  • Synchronicity lack with longer Flash Documents and low audio bit rates: If a recording is longer than 10 minutes, includes an accompanying video, and the audio bit rate in the Flash publishing dialog is set to 48 kbit/s or lower, then audio and video in the resulting Flash Document are not synchronously replayed, especially towards the end of the document.

  • Regular short interruptions during Flash Document replay: If a recording contains pages (i.e., is not a Screen Recording only), then the replay of the corresponding Flash Document is erroneously interrupted for a short period of time in a regular manner.

  • Unexpected jump back in long Flash Documents after repositioning: If the current replay time is moved forward by the user in a long Flash Document, e.g., by clicking somewhere on the timeline of the Web Player, then the displayed slider on the timeline erroneously first jumps back to the original position and nothing happens for some seconds, before the slider is displayed again at the new position and the replay continues.

  • Incorrect display of mathematical symbols after import with PowerPoint 2007: If a PowerPoint document contains mathematical symbols (out of the font “Symbol”) and PowerPoint 2007 is the default PowerPoint installation, then these symbols are not correctly displayed in LECTURNITY after the document import in some cases. Instead of the original symbols rectangular placeholders are displayed.

  • Uncontrolled termination of Internet Explorer 8 together with RealMedia or Windows Media Documents: If the design template “LECTURNITY Player Design” is used during the creation of a RealMedia or Windows Media Document and the resulting document is opened in Internet Explorer 8, then a window resizing results in the display of a security message or directly in an uncontrolled termination of the application. This problem does not appear with other design templates or with other Internet Explorer versions.

  • Incomplete video display in Windows Media Documents: If a recording contains a video with a resolution unequal to the resolution used during the creation of the corresponding Windows Media Document, then the video in the resulting Windows Media Document is not completely displayed during replay in the sense that black borders are shown on the right and on the bottom of the video area instead of real video content.

LECTURNITY 4.0.p4: Release Notes

Modifications from Release 4.0.p3 to Release 4.0.p4

Features

The following new functionalities have been introduced in LECTURNITY 4.0.p4:

  • YouTube upload in HD quality: LECTURNITY 4.0.p4 provides publishing and direct uploading to YouTube. Screen Recordings as well as page-based standard recordings are optimised for YouTube and transferred to the section “My Videos” of your YouTube account. Depending on your recording resolution, the LECTURNITY recordings are provided in YouTube in HD quality. The meta data for the YouTube fields “Title” and “Tags” is automatically extracted from the recording’s title and keywords. The YouTube fields “Description”, “Category”, and “Privacy” have to be defined manually. In order to use the YouTube upload, select the YouTube Default Profile (described below) or select “Video Document” in the Publisher and run through the detailed settings for this publishing type.

  • Default Profiles and Publishing Favourites: LECTURNITY 4.0.p4 provides Default Profiles, which are pre-defined in the sense that they are part of the LECTURNITY installation and only need a minimum or no customisation by the user. Once the Default Profile is customised, a single click to the “Publish” button is sufficient to publish (and maybe upload) the recording. Default Profiles exist for local publishing to the Target Document Formats “Flash Document”, “Windows Media Document”, “RealMedia Document”, “Video Document”, and “LECTURNITY Presentation Document”. In addition, there are Default Profiles for the YouTube and the SLIDESTAR upload. The dialogue for the “Publishing Format” is replaced by a new dialogue “Publishing Profile”, in which the user can select between the Default Profiles and Custom Profiles and can create new Custom Profiles or enter the Profile Manager. The icon of the currently activated Publishing Profile, whether it is a Default Profile or Custom Profile, is visualised on the “Publish” button. As a consequence, the user can see at a glance without any clicks, which Publishing Profile is activated and can upload, for example, the recording currently selected in the Recordings View with a single click, to YouTube. Below the “Publish” button, there is the new Favourites Bar listing the most recently used Publishing Profiles by their icons. The Favourites Bar automatically opens on moving the mouse over the “Publish” button. It is therefore very easy to switch with a single click between the Favourites without opening any dialogue boxes. The tooltips of the Profile show their textual description and information about the latest usage and latest published document.

Improvements

The following features, properties and modules have been improved in LECTURNITY 4.0.p4:

  • Recording’s primary features moved to ribbon-like toolbar in Recordings View: In LECTURNITY 4.0.p3, the primary functions “Preview”, “Edit”, and “Publish” for the documents in the Recordings View are located in the Start ribbon. Since by default the Recordings View is located in the window’s lower left corner whereas the primary functions are located in the upper right corner in the ribbon, it is not very obvious for the user to match primary functions to their recordings and especially not very convenient to use. In LECTURNITY 4.0.p4, these primary functions are therefore located in a ribbon-like toolbar directly at the bottom of the Recordings View.

LECTURNITY 4.0.p3: Release Notes

Modifications from Release 4.0.p2 to Release 4.0.p3

Improvements

The following features, properties and modules have been improved in LECTURNITY 4.0.p3:

  • No general publishing abort due to short page display times in Flash Documents: Due to restrictions of the Flash file format, the display time of a page in a recording falling below a certain threshold results in the fact that the page cannot be displayed in the corresponding Flash Document. The reasons for such a short display time can vary from very frequent clicks through the pages of the document structure during recording to manually created very short display times for static, interactive pages during editing. In LECTURNITY 4.0.p2, the publishing process is always automatically aborted with an error message if such a small display time is encountered. LECTURNITY 4.0.p3 only aborts the publishing if the page with the small display time includes interaction or questions, since they cannot be omitted during replay. If the page does not include any interaction or questions, and therefore includes no stop mark, the display time is usually too short anyway for the user to perceive the content of the page. As a consequence, the page can be omitted without loss of understanding in most cases. LECTURNITY 4.0.p3 only displays a warning in these cases, but continues the publishing process.

Bug fixes

The following bugs of LECTURNITY 4.0.p2 are fixed in LECTURNITY 4.0.p3:

  • No meaningful error message in case of missing PowerPoint: If a PowerPoint document is imported in LECTURNITY and PowerPoint itself is not installed on the system, LECTURNITY displays an unhelpful error message “Error: 21”. As a consequence, the PowerPoint document is not imported.

  • Missing help document on pressing F1: If the mouse pointer is over the ribbon bar or the mouse button is clicked on the ribbon bar, pressing F1 incorrectly results in a message that the help file is not found.

  • Uncontrolled termination on closing the AV monitor during Screen Recording: If a user opens the Audio/Video Monitor during Screen Recording using the Presentation Bar’s context menu, a click on the “red cross” in the upper right corner of the Monitor window results in an uncontrolled termination of LECTURNITY Studio.

  • Uncontrolled termination during SLIDESTAR publishing in certain cases: If SLIDESTAR publishing fails due to any reason, a dialogue with three options, (“Verify Settings”, “Retry” and “Cancel”) is displayed. Clicking on “Cancel” results in an uncontrolled termination of the Publisher application.

  • Error message “Temporary file is missing” during creation of a Flash Document: If a recording includes a test and interactive components for navigation, the creation of the corresponding Flash Document results in the error message “Temporary file is missing”. As a consequence, the publishing process is wrongly interrupted and no Flash Document is created.

  • Error “Unsupported characters in path/filename …” during SLIDESTAR publishing: If a directory name of the recording’s local storage location includes a space character, the upload to a SLIDESTAR server during the publishing process wrongly results in the message, “Non-supported characters in path/filename. The path or file name contains non-supported characters. The following characters are supported: A-Z, a-z, 0-9, -, ., _, ~, !, @, $, +, ,, ;, =."”. Afterwards the message “Publishing successfully finished” is displayed, but the document is not uploaded.

  • Mis-operation during SLIDESTAR publishing using profiles: If a Publishing Profile is used for the SLIDESTAR publishing and “Publish extended” is used, the message, “Invalid username or password. Please, verify your username or password settings or try again.” is wrongly displayed and only a second try by clicking on “Retry” fixes the problem. “Publish” instead of “Publish extended” results in an uncontrolled termination in this case.

  • Replay problems with Windows Media or RealMedia Documents including double quotes: If a recording includes double quotes on a page, the corresponding Windows Media or RealMedia document can be opened in a Web browser, but the replay cannot be started. The control components of the Web player are inactive.

  • Grey background during Screen Recording area selection in rare cases: If a user already used one of the drawing tools (marker, pen, etc.) during an earlier Screen Recording and then re-enters the selection mode for Screen Recording again, the selection frame is displayed over a grey background in some rare cases. As a consequence, the size and position of the selection frame cannot be adapted to the desktop’s window layout.

  • No replay of Flash Documents including special characters in filenames: If the filename of a recording contains a special character, (e.g., a German umlaut), the replay of the resulting Flash Document doesn’t work. The Web Player user interface is displayed, but the content area for pages, video, etc. remain empty.

  • Uncontrolled termination on changing the background colour of drag&drop areas: Changing the background colour of a target area in a Drag&Drop Question results in an uncontrolled termination of LECTURNITY Studio.

  • Missing audio warning during Screen Recording: The automated Audio Input Level Control does not work correctly during Screen Recording. As a consequence, the Audio Input Level Warning is not displayed, even if the audio input level is insufficient for a certain period of time. This problem does not appear in the Standard Recording mode.

  • Error message “There was an error …: Converting Audio” during Flash publishing: If a new Source Document without any pages is recorded and a Screen Recording is created within this recording, the publishing to a Flash document results in the error message “An error occurred during the following task: Converting audio”. As a consequence, the publishing process is interrupted and no Flash Document is created.

  • Uncontrolled Player termination on opening a recording without page: If a new Source Document without any pages is recorded and a Screen Recording is created within this recording, the opening of the resulting LECTURNITY Presentation Document in the Player results in the error message “There was an unexpected error! NullPointerException” and an uncontrolled termination of the Player application.

  • Presentation Bar customising not persistent: If the Presentation Bar is customised in any way, the customisation is not stored persistently. Re-entering the selection mode for Screen Recording already shows the Presentation Bar in its initial state. If LECTURNITY Studio is restarted, the Presentation Bar appears in its initial state.

  • Wrong positioning of enumeration items from PowerPoint in certain situations: The first item of an enumeration list imported from a PowerPoint document is positioned too far left in some cases.

  • Uncontrolled termination on Screen Recording start without audio device: If no audio device exists on a system and the error message “No audio hardware found on your computer. No recording possible." displayed at start-up by LECTURNITY Studio is ignored, then the start of a Screen Recording results in an uncontrolled termination of the application.

  • Wrong size of Screen Recordings in Windows Media and RealMedia Documents: If the setting “Document structure and full text search” in the publishing dialog “Conversion format” for Windows Media or RealMedia Documents is deactivated, the Screen Recording is displayed too small in the resulting documents.

  • Incorrect clip positioning in Flash Documents under certain conditions: If a Flash Document contains video clips displayed over the pages and the browser window is resized, then the pages are resized and repositioned accordingly, but the clips are displayed in the wrong position and may also be the wrong size.

  • Interruptions in the video replay of Flash Documents in special cases: If a recording contains a video, the replay of the video in the corresponding Flash Document is interrupted from time to time. This does not affect the replay of audio or pages. The interruptions only appear with specific recording settings and in certain replay scenarios.

  • No page display in Flash Documents including many annotations: If a recording includes many graphical annotations (e.g., as result of handwriting), then the pages in the corresponding Flash Document are sometimes not displayed.

  • No reaction to wrong server address or name during SLIDESTAR publishing: If a wrong server name or IP address is used in the settings for the SLIDESTAR publishing, no error message is displayed after clicking “Finish”.

LECTURNITY 4.0.p2: Release Notes

Modifications from Release 4.0.p1 to Release 4.0.p2

This release is for administrative reasons only and does not change any functionality.

LECTURNITY 4.0.p1: Release Notes

Modifications from Release 4.0 to Release 4.0.p1

Improvements

The following features, properties and modules have been improved in LECTURNITY 4.0.p1:

  • User interaction outside recording area during area selection: During the desktop area selection for Screen Recording, it is now possible to interact with other applications also outside the displayed desktop area frame. In LECTURNITY 4.0 this is only possible inside the desktop area frame.

  • Copying and moving support for locally stored Flash Documents: Due to the official security restrictions of the Flash Player plug-in for local Flash files, it is not possible in LECTURNITY 4.0 to open and replay a Flash Document which has been copied or moved away from its original storage location in the local file system. As a consequence, the Flash Player sometimes displays the error message “Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation”. This problem does not appear if the document is downloaded or streamed from a server. In LECTURNITY 4.0.p1 local Flash Documents can also be replayed after having been copied or moved. An additional start-up file (“start.exe”) for every local Flash document is used to open the document in the Web browser.

  • Automatic preview after recording stop: In LECTURNITY 4.0.p1 the Studio can automatically switch to the Preview after the user has stopped a recording. In order to stay compliant with the very well-known behaviour from earlier LECTURNITY versions, this feature is deactivated by default in the Studio settings (section “Miscellaneous”).

  • Double click or <return> for Preview start in Recordings View:</return> In LECTURNITY 4.0.p1 a double click on a Recording in the Recordings View is sufficient to start the Preview of this Recording. In addition, <return> also starts the Preview of a selected entry in the Recordings View.

    </return>
  • Rename support for Recording filenames: Due to restrictions in the different Windows platform technologies used in the Publishing process, the total length of path and name of a Recording’s files is limited to 260 characters. Therefore, longer combinations of path and filenames result in warnings or error messages during a Publishing process. In LECTURNITY 4.0 it is difficult to influence this length, if a PowerPoint document is already imported and recorded. LECTURNITY 4.0.p1 therefore provides a new functionality to rename the files of a Recording in the Recordings View.

Bug fixes

The following bugs of LECTURNITY 4.0 are fixed in LECTURNITY 4.0.p1:

  • No Screen Recording clip display together with still image in Flash Documents: In a scenario, in which a usual Recording contains slides and a Screen Recording clip, a still image is additionally inserted after recording stop. If the setting “Clips in video area” is activated, then the resulting Flash Document erroneously displays the still image in the video area. The clip is not displayed.

  • Wrong display width of Document Structure in Flash Documents in certain situations: If a Recording contains a video smaller than the standard resolution 320x240, then the Document Structure in the corresponding Flash Document is erroneously displayed too small to be fully visible to the user. As a consequence, a scrollbar is displayed.

  • Disabled Navigation Toolbar and wrong Status Bar values during Preview: In certain situations, especially together with longer Recordings, the Preview start results in a disabled Navigation toolbar and in the display of wrong values for “Current position”, “Total length”, etc. in the Status Bar. Due to the disabled navigation buttons the replay cannot be controlled.

  • Missing support of documents created with earlier Campus versions: A Recording created with an earlier Campus version of LECTURNITY (e.g., LECTURNITY 3.0 Campus) can erroneously not be opened or processed. For instance, LECTURNITY Studio displays an error message and afterwards aborts the action, if a user tries to open such a Recording.

  • Error “No template could be found” during creation of Windows Media or RealMedia documents: Is LECTURNITY installed on a system for the first time, a click to “Publish” for a Recording erroneously results in the message “No templates could be found for the web pages. Please select a valid template”. After selecting the template the Publishing process works as expected. This effect does not appear if “Publish advanced …” was used as very first Publishing action on this system.

  • Malfunction during insertion of clips including audio: If the user tries to insert a clip with audio into a Recording during editing, then a dialog is displayed that asks the user how to insert the audio of the clip. If the user now accepts the default settings (“Mix with existing audio”) and clicks on “Yes”, nothing erroneously happens and the clip is not inserted.

  • “Save as …” of Recordings erroneously requires a second try to work: If a user edits a Recording and clicks on “Save as … “ in the application menu, nothing erroneously happens. However, a second click on “Save as …” opens the file selection dialog and works as expected.

  • No upload to SLIDESTAR platform possible in certain situations: The upload of a Flash Document to a SLIDESTAR platform erroneously results in the display of the message “Invalid username or password…” in certain situations. Even the options to circumvent the effect, provided in the message dialog, do not solve the problem.

  • Error during the creation of a SLIDESTAR document out of a Screen Recording: If a Screen Recording with a Document Structure and a search index is converted into a Flash Document for SLIDESTAR, the error message “An error occured during the following task: …” is displayed. As a consequence, the Flash Document is not created and not uploaded to SLIDESTAR.

LECTURNITY 4.0: Release Notes

Modifications from Release 3.0.p1 to Release 4.0

Features

The following new functionalities have been introduced in LECTURNITY 4.0:

  • Document structure and full text search also for Screen Recordings: The Screen Recording feature of LECTURNITY can be used to record input formats that are not directly supported by LECTURNITY, such as PDF or OpenOffice Impress. It can also be used to record animations or visual effects in PowerPoint presentations that cannot be directly imported into LECTURNITY. In general, using Screen Recording, the user can record every document format or application that has a user interface displayed on the desktop. However, in LECTURNITY 4.0 the Screen Recording feature not only records a selected screen area: LECTURNITY 4.0 automatically creates a Document Structure for every Screen Recording. For each section in this Document Structure (e.g., a presented slide) a thumbnail and a default title is created. This Document Structure can be re-edited later on. As for LECTURNITY recordings of usual Source Documents and/or imported PowerPoint presentations, the Document Structure can be used for overview and navigation within the Screen Recording in all target formats. In addition, LECTURNITY provides a full text search in all target formats for Screen Recordings (except LECTURNITY iPod Documents). The user can enter a keyword in the search field of every player and gets the hits for this keyword in a list. A click to a list entry displays the part of the Screen Recording, in which the keyword appears in the recorded text (e.g., on slides or applications). These new features allow the convenient handling, archiving and retrieval of Screen Recordings, even if you have many of them in a local collection or on a server.

  • Full text search in Windows Media and RealMedia Documents: In LECTURNITY 3.0 the full text search is only provided in the LECTURNITY Player. In LECTURNITY 4.0 also the players for Windows Media and RealMedia Documents provide a form for a full text search. In every hit the keyword is highlighted within its text environment in the result list in order to allow the user the easy evaluation or personal rating of the hit. This is also newly available in the LECTURNITY Player search form. In the search form of all players, a click to a hit directly displays the respective part of the document or Screen Recording in the player.

  • New Flash player including full text search and document structure: The player for Flash Documents, newly created and designed for LECTURNITY 4.0 now includes all the components of the usual LECTURNITY player, especially a Document Structure for overview and navigation purpose and a full text search form.

  • Integrated user interface combining Recording, Editing, and Publishing in one tool: In LECTURNITY 4.0 the components Assistant, Editor, and default Publishing known from LECTURNITY 3.0 are combined in one tool called the LECTURNITY Studio which offers a completely new user interface design. The editing of Recordings is now an integral, but still optional, part of the production process. The publishing or replay of a re-edited recording can be realized without an Editor export, as it is necessary in LECTURNITY 3.0. The new LECTURNITY Studio offers the default publishing, for which the user only selects one of the five Publishing Formats (i.e. Target Document Types) und afterwards always starts the “Publish” action only in order to create the Target Document out of a Recording. No definition of technical detail settings or the usage of profiles is necessary. Nevertheless, publishing with detail settings or profiles can also be applied to Recordings within Studio and the LECTURNITY Publisher and the LECTURNITY Player are still available as separate tools.

  • Media Library instead of projects: In a change to LECTURNITY 3, there are no projects in LECTURNITY 4.0 for storing the list of Source Documents or Recordings, settings, or editing actions, etc. The created or opened Source Documents and Recordings, which are displayed in the respective views of LECTURNITY Studio, are organized in a user-based Media Library. The Media Library is automatically loaded when the user starts the Studio and automatically saved when the user leaves the Studio. All Studio settings are stored on a user basis and automatically loaded on application start-up. In addition, in LECTURNITY 4.0 it is not necessary to explicitly save the editing actions applied to a Recording in a separate file.

  • Built-in preview of Recordings: In LECTURNITY 4.0 there is a built-in preview function for the replay of Recordings (i.e., LECTURNITY Recording Documents). The Preview replays the document including all media and components in order to offer the user a first impression of what Target Documents created later in this Recording will look like. The LECTURNITY Player is no longer used for the preview and replay of LECTURNITY Recording Documents, but for the replay of LECTURNITY Presentation Documents only.

  • New customizable tools for Full Screen Presentations and Screen Recording: The new Presentation Bar in LECTURNITY 4.0 offers various tools to control the recording, navigate through pages and to draw on pages, etc. The Presentation Bar is displayed in the Full Screen mode or during Screen Recording, always positioned at the border of the Desktop. The user can customize the Presentation Bar in various ways: available tools, size and position of the bar, transparency, etc. If the user activates the bar’s “Auto hide” function, the bar automatically hides, when the mouse cursor leaves the bar and reappears when the mouse cursor approaches the bar again. The Audio/Video Monitor widget offers a preview of the recorded video and the input level of the recorded audio for the author’s or presenter’s personal control. It is also displayed in the Full Screen Mode or during Screen Recording, can be freely positioned on the screen, and is transparent. In addition, the Audio/Video Monitor offers information about the recording time, the page count (e.g., Page 1 of 33), and the remaining disk space. Both, Presentation Bar and Audio/Video Monitor can be completely hidden if required. All Document Structure Views in LECTURNITY now offer thumbnails of the pages. This is especially true for the Document Structure View during recording, also in Full Screen Mode.

  • Startpage for a quick overview and start-up: The new Startpage in LECTURNITY 4.0 offers the user the most important features and information sources at a glance. For instance, one click on the Startpage and the selection of a PowerPoint presentation is sufficient in order to directly present and record the imported presentation. Another click on the Startpage and the selection of the Desktop area is sufficient in order record a PDF displayed full screen in the Adobe Reader (formerly Acrobat Reader). The display of the Startpage on Studio’s start-up can be customized.
