Warning message with Pure Screengrabbing Documents in certain situations
Question:
If a Pure Screengrabbing Document erroneously includes an Accompanying Video, its opening in the Editor results in a warning message.
Solution:
In LECTURNITY 2.0.p3 accompanying video is not allowed in Pure Screengrabbing Documents anymore.
Keyboard shortcuts
The following keyboard shortcuts can be used in the LECTURNITY Editor for efficient working:

Preview of clips is sometimes coarse
Question:
In the preview of theLECTURNITY Editor, video clips (e. g. Screengrabbing clips) are displayed in a bad quality, the scaling of the clip is very coarse.
In the preview of the LECTURNITY Editor, all clips are displayed in the same size. If DirectX 8.1 or lower is used, the internal scaling may deliver inferior results.
Solution:
By installing DirectX 9.0 or higher, the scaling algorithm may be improved, but clips are still displayed in the same size (if a video is included in the LECTURNITY Recording Document, the clips are displayed at the same size as the video).
Please note that this is only a preview issue. The export will still be in the original quality.
Error message "0x80004005" during export
Question:
Why does the error message "The audio and/or video export failed. The following\nerror code was generated: 0x80004005"." occur during the export of a LECTURNITY recording? This error message may occur if the recording document contains a video in a format which may be decompressed and displayed, but not compressed again. This is the case with most DV data, and with video data in the i420 format (is recognized as uncompressed data in the LECTURNITY Assistant). These formats may be read, but not written. The output format has to be set to a valid format.
Solution:
Open the "Export and Preview settings..." in the "File" menu and select a suitable video codec for the export. Now the export should work without problems.
Some still images are not displayed correctly in the Editor
Question:
Why are some still images displayed as a green square in the video/clip preview frame of the LECTURNITY Editor?
This problem occurs rather often when the color depth of your graphics adapter is set to 16 bits.
Solution:
Set the color depth of your graphics adapter to 24 or 32 bits. Then rebuild the preview by displaying the "Export and preview settings" dialog and then closing it by pressing the "OK" button. Please note that this is only a preview issue; the still image should nevertheless be displayed correctly in the LECTURNITY Player after exporting the new recording document.
Video clips are displayed, but their export fails
Question:
I inserted video clips into my Editor Project which are displayed correctly. However, upon exporting I get the following error message: "The video clip export failed. The following error code was generated: 0x80040216" (other possible error code is 0x80040217). What is the reason?
Solution:
Check whether the video clip is a DV-AVI-file. This is e. g. the case if you created AVI-files with the help of the Windows MovieMaker or if you recorded the clip directly with a digital video camera. The same error message is displayed if you have tried to import an MPG/MPEG clip as a clip into your editor project.
Sometimes the video replay does not start
Question:
The video replay does not start correctly. The audio is replayed correctly, but the video seems to hang. What can I do about it? This problems occurs irregularly, especially with installations on Windows XP with DirectX8.1.
Solution:
Open the "Export and Preview Settings" dialog (in the "File" menu), then click "OK". Now the video replay should work again.
Audio and video not correct after editing (DirectX 8.0)
Question:
After editing a document (cut, paste, delete, ...), the preview of the document is no longer correct. The audio is garbled, and/or the video is not synchronous to the audio anymore.
On some systems, problems as the above occur when DirectX 8.0 is installed.
Solution:
Install DirectX 8.1 or higher on your system. You can find the installation package of DirectX 9.0b on your LECTURNITY installation CD (subdirectory DirectX). Alternatively, you can download the latest DirectX version directly from Microsoft under www.microsoft.com/directx.
Smart Recompression
Question:
What is "Smart Recompression" and when can I use it?
Solution:
The option "Smart Recompression" (see figure) may be used in order to reduce the export time as not complete video stream but only parts of it are recompressed.
Figure 1: Editor Video Export Settings
Please note that you should only use this function if you cut or concatenate documents. If you are cut and/or paste within the document and use Smart Recompression for the export, it might lead to misdisplays and bad video frames and/or system crashes with the LECTURNITY Player.
This function only works if the video export codec is the same as the codec used in the source document. This is the case by default, as the Editor tries to examine the source document to extract the codec information. If the source and target (export) codecs differ, smart recompression does not have any impact at all.
"Smart Recompression" can also be used for clips ("Preview and Export Settings", page "Clips"). You may use this option when no changes have been made in the document that affected the clips. In this case, the writing of the clips is accelerated tremendously. However, if cuttings in the document effected clips, you should refrain from this option.
Exporting to a network share is slow
Question:
When a large document with many slides and/or whiteboard action is exported to a network drive, then the wirting of the whiteboard data takes quite long (up to several minutes).
Writing to a network drive is performed unbuffered.
Solution:
Export to a local drive, and then copy the new recording document to the desired network location.
The video preview window remains black or green
Question:
The video preview window of the LECTURNITY Editor always remains black or green, even if the document contains a video and/or clips. This problem may have multiple reasons.
Reason 1:
This problem may occur if the color depth of your graphics adapter is set to 16 bits. If replay of your recording documents succeeds using the LECTURNITY Player, a 16 Bit color depth is most probably the cause of this problem.
Solution:
Set the color depth of your graphics adapter to 24 or 32 bits. Then rebuild the preview by displaying the "Export and preview settings" dialog and then closing it by pressing the "OK" button. Now the video/clip preview should be correct. Please note that this is only a preview issue without any impact on the export.
Reason 2:
The video codec (see also Video FAQ) which was used for the recording is not installed on the current system.
Solution:
Install the missing codec and then reload the document into the LECTURNITY Editor. Now the video preview should be displayed correctly. In order to find out whether a codec is installed on your computer or not, double-click the video file (with the file suffix .AVI) in order to display it with the Windows Media Player. If this fails, the codec is almost certainly not installed on your computer. If the replay works with the Windows Media Player, please check Solution 2 below.
Reason 3:
You use Windows 98 with DirectX 9.0 or higher. Under certain circumstances, some libraries are not properly installed which are required by the LECTURNITY Editor are not properly installed.
Solution:
Open the Windows Explorer and go to the directory into which you installed the LECTURNITY Suite (normally C:\Program Files\LECTURNITY Suite). Open the subdirectory Editor. Double-click the file register.bat. Two message boxes should now be displayed reporting success registering ladfilter.dll and lresizer.dll. After that, restart the LECTURNITY Editor and reload the document; now the preview of video and clips should work as expected.
Audio track not displayed or replayed, document from CD
Question:
I imported a LECTURNITY Recording Document (LRD file) directly from a CD ROM into the LECTURNITY Editor. Why is the audio track empty, although an error message is not displayed? The document is correctly replayed in the LECTURNITY Player.
Reading the audio data from a CD ROM fails in the LECTURNITY Editor due to a buffer size negotation failure.
Solution:
Copy the recording document to a hard disk. Re-import the document into the LECTURNITY Editor; now the audio track should be displayed and replayed correctly.
Clips are truncated at the end of the presentation
Question:
If a clip is inserted in such a way that the clip is longer than the length of the remaining audio, the clip is truncated in the export.
This behaviour is designed deliberately.
Solution:
You can circumvent this problem by inserting a document with the same slide as at the end of your project and silent audio at the end of your presentation. After that, insert the clip at the desired position. Alternatively, you may export the audio as a WAV file, prolong it with an external program, and then re-import it into the Editor.
